Michigan is ideal for cross country skiing, due to its rolling terrain and ample snowfall. Check out some of our favorite cross country ski trails in the central Northern Michigan area, all within a 90 minute drive from XC Ski HQ:
BEST CROSS COUNTRY SKI TRAILS IN MICHIGAN’S LOWER PENNINSULA
- Cross Country Ski Headquarters Trail Map
- Marl Lake Trail Map – Beautiful, ungroomed, flat, wooded 5 mile loop in Higgins Lake.
- North Higgins Lake State Park Trail Map – Occasionally groomed, 1.5 mile, 4 mile, and 6 mile wooded loops with some hills in Higgins Lake.
- West Higgins Lake Trail Map – Beautiful, occasional hills, ungroomed 3 mile trail in Higgins Lake.
- Mason Tract Trail Map – Gorgeous point-to-point trail along the south branch of the AuSable river in Roscommon/Grayling. 8 miles in length, groomed occasionally. Some hills.
- Tisdale Triangle Trail Map – Mostly flat, wooded trail with multiple loops in Roscommon. Groomed occasionally.
- Lost Twin Lakes Trail Map – Beautiful 4 mile back country ski trail in Houghton Lake.
- Hanson Hills Trail Map – Rolling terrain of groomed trails in Grayling.
- Forbush Corner Trail Map – Rolling terrain of groomed trails in Frederic.
- Loud Creek Trail Map – Interconnecting loops through hardwood and pine forests with ranging level of difficulty. Ungroomed. Located in Mio.
- Wakely Lake Trail Map – Beautiful interconnecting loop trail around Wakely Lake in Grayling. Ungroomed.
- Hartwick Pines Trail Map – Groomed once or twice weekly. Mostly flat except the Weary Legs trrail. Old growth forest – Grayling.
- Ogemaw Hills Trail Map – Gorgeous trails through rolling terrain near West Branch. Groomed occasionally.
- Corsair Trail Map – Beautiful trails, groomed regularly when conditions permit.
- Highbanks Trail Map – Interconnecting loops along the bank of the Ausable River in Iosco County.
- Shingle Mill Pathway Map – Epic terrain in the Pigeon River Valley. 11 mile loop. Ungroomed.
- Wilderness State Park Map – Beautiful wooded trails of mixed terrain and interconnecting loops near Mackinaw City.
- Wildwood Hills Pathway – Lovely trails groomed occasionally in Indian River.
- Mackinaw Island Ski Trails – Groomed occasionally, interconnecting loops. Beautiful terrain.
